Due to the weather forecast, the fireworks scheduled for this evening, Friday, July 8, at the Ulster County Fairgrounds in New Paltz, have been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 12 at dusk. The gates will open at 5 p.m.

Seriously, next Tuesday…at this point they should just forget it. Last week was a good call. There was a tornado watch. There is nothing for tonight. We are not made out of sugar, we will not melt. I remember seeing fireworks with my young daughter on the the Tripping Fields of SUNY in the rain, with lightening in the distance. Nobody got hurt. Nobody got killed…and actually it was fun.It is the summer, there will always be storms. At this point they should just cancel or reschedule for a reasonable day in September and call it a Labor Day celebration.
