Saugerties election letters

Of reaping and sowing

I have just received a slanderous mailing that disparages the character of Legislator Chris Allen who is running for re-election in Legislature District 2. Saugerties politics is a rough and tumble game, but this personal attack is the worst I’ve seen in my years of participation in Saugerties politics. It gives no indication as to its source but obviously is for the benefit of his opponent Angie Minew.

It is my hope that Ms. Minew and the Conservative Party Chairman will do the right thing and repudiate this mailing even though they deny having anything to do with its publication. Previous letters to Saugerties Times from Ms. Minew, her supporters, and the chairman have utilized the harsh terms which appear in the mailer, so in essence they “reap what they sow.”

Chris Allen is the hardest working elected official I know and I encourage voters in his district to vote for his re-election on Nov. 3.

Time for new faces

This week the voters of this great county and the Town of Saugerties get to go to the polls and exercise the power at the end of their fingers. They get to pick up a pencil and vote. Yes we have the power to make a difference if we only use it. Too many times we don’t use the gift given as a right by our wise forefathers. This year we are at a crossroads. Do we stay the course and keep up with business as usual while jobs stay away, people move away and our kids have to go away for school and for life? Or do we put in some new faces with new ideas while keeping in those who have performed well for us, their “employers”? Please voters, join with me and let’s move on to a better community a better county by restoring ours. Make it to the polls and support these fine candidates: Terry Bernardo for county executive, Norman Massry for State Supreme Court, Gaetana Ciarlante for Saugerties town supervisor, Dan Ellsworth and Allyson Barbaria for Saugerties Town Council, Doug Myer for Saugerties highway superintendent, for Ulster County Legislature Mary Warwo (District 1), Angie Minew Legislator (District 2) Dean Fabiano Legislator (District 3).

Allen is the best qualified

I know Chris Allen and I don’t believe any of the weird or (recently over-the-top) slanderous accusations made against him. He’s got seemingly unbounded energy and passion for what he does; he’s intelligent, informed and focused on the issues that affect Saugerties. Further, Chris is particularly concerned about the state of public education in New York and regularly attends our School Board meetings. In short, he’s invested in serving our community, and there is no better-qualified candidate for Ulster County Legislature, District 2.

Promise kept

I am a Saugerties resident living off of Kings Highway and have been having a issue with CSX railroad since the end of May of this year. They tore up our crossing which leads to our driveway to fix rails and left it unfinished since May. We had been fighting with CSX for months to finish it and always got a runaround of why it wasn’t finished. It became a dangerous situation for us. It so happened Chris Allen had stopped by our house campaigning for the upcoming election and had seen the problem with our railroad crossing. Needless to say it took Chris Allen to contact CSX to finally get the job done. He kept his promise in helping us and for that we are grateful for what he did. Me and my family will be voting for Chris Allen. He made a promise and kept it and that is someone we need in this town. Someone who listened and followed through on his word. I hope nothing but the best for him and hope that he wins his election. He has our vote and I hope he has yours. Thanks Chris once again.
