Doubtful. For taxpayers, it’s the next tax bill that counts.

Two for Terry

Political endorsement from politicians can be a mixed blessing, as evidenced in the Kingston mayoral primary. Former congressman Maurice Hinchey warmly endorsed incumbent Shayne Gallo who went on to lose handily to challenger Steve Noble.

Executive candidate Terry Bernardo got the nod from popular Congressman Gibson a few weeks ago, which probably won’t hurt.

Her endorsement from Westchester County executive/failed gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino could wind up on Saturday Night Live!

Witness this obviously out-of-touch paean from the Republican candidate who carried Ulster by 1,754 votes last year: “A county executive with backbone can make a real difference for families struggling with ever increasing property taxes and the government waste and corruption that drives them,” Astorino asserted in a prepared statement.

Say what? Taxes are down in next year’s county budget and Bernardo has yet to assert “waste and corruption” in county government, much less prove it. That she had the “backbone” to take on a popular incumbent cannot be refuted.
