In Saugerties, Democrat first-termer Chris Allen won a write-in for a place on the Republican line. A man for all parties, the ambitious Allen might just promote himself for legislative chairman on a fusion ticket next year.
Cong-ho!
Following up on mid-winter hints, former assemblyman John Faso of Kinderhook says he’s all in for the Republican nomination for Congress next year. Faso hopes to succeed Kinderhook neighbor Chris Gibson, who won’t be seeking a fourth term next year.
Not to get ahead of anybody, but current Assemblyman Pete Lopez is also expected to throw his hat in the ring by the end of the month.
Faso’s pre-announcement announcement indicates a commitment to bring jobs to upstate New York. Politicians have been doing that dance since Hillary Clinton made similar unfulfilled pledges in her 2000 Senate campaign. The former Assembly minority leader will have to bring something more concrete — literally — to the table.
Faso, with access to deep pockets, would seem the GOP frontrunner at this point. But the
Democrats, meanwhile, have to be salivating at the prospect of an open seat. Expect worthies to surface some time next month.
Written as if Hugh wishes thirty more years writing about this stuff to not rock the boat that is cruising into port.
Glad to see Gallo go. He has been an absolute disaster as mayor. And it also appears that Gallo has been “talked off the ledge” when it comes to his ill-advised sour-grapes vendetta against Steve Noble, who beat him fair and square. Any elected executive who unjustly uses his position of authority to damage or destroy a political opponent is someone who needs to be removed from office. Very glad to see that David Donaldson is on the record in regard to this. Shayne, if you ever again want to be able to buy a ticket to a Democratic dinner in this community, show a little class and bow out gracefully.
Rainier me darlin’, would you also posit that “any Mayor who uses his position of authority to destroy a person seeking employment from him after a long stretch of challenge in his life” needs removal from office? If so, Kingston missed its chance as Sottile resigned, reportedly of his own free will (but only insiders know the real story there you see). Oh don’t worry…my upcoming complaint to the local human rights commission will be public record…or so they say anyway LOL
