Bon-Odori Festival returns to New Paltz

New Paltz’s festival celebrating all things Japanese returns early next month to Hasbrouck Park in the village. The Bon-Odori New Paltz Dance Festival, now in its fourth year, will feature martial arts demonstrations, taiko drumming, amazing food, dance and live music.

Featured performers include bluegrass player Roland White, with special guest Kentaro Hiratsuka, and also Jeff Lutke and Rich Greenstein.

Ever since the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the dance festival has also promoted a “nuclear-free future” and green energy alternatives.

Bon-Odori takes place on Sunday, Aug. 3 — from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m. Admission is free. The event goes on rain or shine.
