Harris Can Protect And Serve
Howard Harris, a N.Y.C. Police Detective — “protect and serve.” He has served for 15 years on the zoning board of appeals and as their chairman — “protect and serve.” He needs and wants your support.

Kutcher Qualified
Gary Kutcher, a candidate for Town Board, is an experienced and qualified environmentalist. The Town Board’s consideration of expensive projects to reduce the town’s carbon footprint needs Gary’s environmental expertise and advice. Without qualified advice, the Town Board is influenced by the spurious and superficial claims of the promoters.
Last year’s debate about installing a 750 KW solar array at the Woodstock Waste Water Treatment Faculty was in desperate need of knowledgeable environmental review. The Town Board voted several times to proceed knowing the solar array would increase Woodstock’s cost for electricity on the assertion it would reduce Woodstock’s carbon footprint. Gary was one of the few that recognized that clearing five acres of forest negated the advantages of the solar array.
At a public information meeting in December, many voiced support for the solar array and claimed it would reduce Woodstock’s contribution to atmospheric carbon dioxide. Gary was one of the few that explained clearcutting five acres of forest would release sequestered carbon dioxide and eliminate the claimed advantages of solar.
I urge you to vote for Gary Kutcher for Town Board. He is a Woodstock resident that spent 30 years in Oregon promoting sustainable forests. His environmental expertise would be a welcome addition to the Town Board.

Lorin Is A Dedicated Vol
In amongst all the mention of volunteers the name Lorin Rose is often overlooked as he is running for public office. It is an important piece of what the Woodstock Times was seeking with its list of candidate questions. Well, I do think it is very important to many in this town to know what a big role has been played by Mr. Rose in the development and maintenance of the Woodstock Dog Park. As a member of the original Dog Park task force I am here to express heartfelt thanks for all the work Lorin Rose has provided in developing the park, maintaining the park and repairing the park. The many town dog owners truly are recipients of and can attest to the commitment and dedication Lorin Rose brings to this task and will bring to other assignments that he assumes. As a volunteer he is exemplary. The dog park has been a huge success in large part due to the many volunteers like Lorin Rose who give so generously of their time and energy.

The River Runs Deep
When I first came to Woodstock in April 1955, I learned that the most prominent men in town were Ken Wilson, Joe Forno and Malcolm Rose. All three were known for their efforts to make Woodstock a good place to live. Now Lorin Rose, the son of Malcolm, is running for Supervisor of the Town of Woodstock.
I have come to know Lorin very well over the past several years, and find him to be downright honest and a most pleasant person to be with. If you mention having a problem with almost anything, he will offer to help you out. He gives his time and effort as evidenced with his involvement in the Lake Hill Fire Company, the Dog Park, the Woodstock Planning Board, and the Comeau Trails project. If you ask for a hand, you get two.
Lorin has had the opportunity to travel with his family and has a pretty good idea of how Woodstock compares with other towns. He is keenly aware of the beauty of Woodstock, his birth home. He has demonstrated his care for the environment in how he built homes as a successful contractor. He has been a success in a very competitive business. He firmly understands that it takes cooperation and the help of other people to get things done right.
Lorin Rose, in my mind, is who we need as our next Supervisor because he not only has the needed skills but because he cares. He cares if something is not done right. He cares if we spend our money without a fair and honest return. And most important, he cares for your opinion and how you might be affected.
When you meet Lorin you will find him easy to talk to and joke with. He has an easy country style. What you see is what he is, but what you may not see is the depth of his knowledge in the arts and literature.
We need a person like Lorin as our Town of Woodstock Supervisor.
Vote for Lorin Rose for Supervisor on November 5.

Woodstock’s Friends — Jeremy, Cathy, Bill
Whenever an election rolls around we all want to vote for our friends. We know them, we like them and we trust them. And we want to believe that they’ll be able to do exactly what they say they can. I’m no different than any of you in that regard. I intend to vote for my friends.
I have, however, one major point to make. My friends have already proven themselves as caring and competent board members. They have already led Woodstock through the hills and valleys of contemporary, complex small town governing. And they’ve done it with splendidly successful efficiency.
Please vote for my (and Woodstock’s) great friends Jeremy, Cathy and Bill. Keep our town running as smoothly as it has been and as it now is.

Vote For Howard
Howard Harris served Woodstock admirably as Zoning Board of Appeals Chairman for eight years. He bent over backward to help the property owner, but he never bent the law. His mastery of the Woodstock Zoning Code demonstrates his earnest attention to the job. Take a look at the 200 plus pages of Woodstock’s Zoning Code — a reason, by the way, we are Woodstock and not a polluted strip mall — and you will appreciate the energy he devoted to his unpaid leadership position.
Four out of five members of the present Woodstock Town Board mysteriously voted to dismiss Howard Harris. The Zoning Board just handles appeals concerning the zoning law. It is the obligation of the town government to enforce the laws and rulings.
Therefore, we need the integrity of Howard Harris on the Town Board to keep a close eye on our town’s democratic process. He will support informed changes in the zoning law, not ignore it. He supports implementation of the Comprehensive Plan. I vote for Howard for Town Board because decisions to spend my tax dollars will be safe in his hands.

Hard Working Don
Here’s why we should re-elect Don Gregorius as our Ulster County Legislator: Don Gregorius is one of the hardest-working public servants in office today. He consistently responds to constituents’ concerns and questions. He’s thoughtful and knowledgeable about issues Ulster County residents care about and need to know.
He’s helped fund the Arts Program in the legislature. He brought the Hydraulic Fracturing Brine Law to the legislature. Hydraulic Fracturing Brine is now prohibited on all Ulster County Roads, thanks to Don Gregorius.
Don has served our community in the best possible way and deserves our support.

Jeremy, Cathy And Me
Town finances are in great shape with our fund balance restored and a less than 2 percent increase in the tax levy this year. Four years ago there were many empty commercial spaces, now most are filled or being renovated. The Town’s green projects are saving us money, the geothermal heat/cooling system and solar panels at the highway garage keep our energy bills to roughly $14,000 while the smaller Company 1 firehouse is spending over $28,000. During the past economic downturn, Woodstock property values have rebounded faster than in other areas in the county, in large part because of our zoning regulations. People want to live in Woodstock. Music, theater and the arts thrive at the Playhouse, the Bearsville Theater and venues in between. As a member of the Town Board I will continue the effort to foster an environment for art to flourish. Woodstock is financially strong and sustainable, please help to maintain this track by voting for Jeremy Wilber, Cathy Magarelli and me for Town Board on November 5.
