When county Legislator Bob Aiello asked for a definition of “smart meter,” Donna Greco leaped to her feet and held up her laptop (photo by Will Dendis)
I was not happy with the way the Saugerties Times portrayed my picture on the front page under the heading “Lynch Mob.” No one was lynching anyone at the Glasco Firehouse the night of the so-called “information” meeting about smart meters. We were simply trying to inform the people of the health risks being imposed on us by our Town Board. Smart meters are being shoved down the throats and onto private homes of Glasco residents and we need to act now to stop this madness. In response to many installation refusals, the Town Board has directed expedited deployment of meters, in an attempt to get to them in before more residents get smart about their adverse health effects. This is an election year and we the people have the power to vote out those who make it their mission to jeopardize our health. Do people know that Supervisor Myers lives in the village and will not have a smart meter installed at her private mansion overlooking the Espous? Or that board member Jimmy Bruno, by his own admission, revealed that his “smart meter” will not be installed inside his house, but rather on the adjacent street corner? No toxic radiation will be bathing his home with cancer-causing emissions, unlike yours. Board member Bruce Leighton admitted none of the board members did any research about the health effects of smart meters, yet they voted unanimously in favor of it. Together they made the decision to install these dangerous devices on your property solely on the propaganda spewed by sales people who are paid with your tax money. Rather than ferreting out the truth, our Town Board parrots the sales pitch of the corporation that manufacturers the meters, all to convince you that these devices are safe. They defend their decision as it has become increasingly difficult for them to admit they made an $800,000 taxpayer-funded mistake.
“Do you have a cell phone?” Jimmy Bruno asks repeatedly. But it is not a comparison. A lot of people have cell phones, the difference is choice. Cell phones can be turned off but smart meters cannot. His next question is: “Do you have a microwave?” Studies show that the energy emitted by microwaves change the unique disc shape of human red blood cells rendering their oxygen carrying capacity inefficient. RF radiation from smart meters has the same effect and, over time, healthy cells mutate into cancer cells. We have a choice whether to use cell phones and microwaves but the bottom line is that these smart meters are being thrust upon us without our consent. What we don’t need is more radiation bathing our homes.
In a recent interview Kelly Myers said: “the Town Board has not yet decided how to handle residents who refuse to have new smart meters installed in their homes” Since when can a Town Board dictate what goes into your home? Last time I checked, my home was private property, and imposing any fees or fines for refusal is fascism. I will not allow Kelly Myers to insist that a perfectly functioning safe water meter be replaced with a toxic RF emitting “smart” meter and then expect to impose her own private backlash retaliation on those who refuse, especially when she doesn’t even have one herself. Who does Kelly Myers think she is? Your health is your choice. Refuse smart meter installations or suffer the consequences.

“Bathing your house in cancer causing emissions”.
Why let facts get in the way of good hyperbolic pseudo-science, right?
Smart Meters are active for a couple seconds per month when they are polled for data, that’s it, and at a ridiculously low power level compared to something like a microwave transmitter. A D-Cell battery (what I had read smart-meters were powered by) has a total capacity of 11WH. A common home microwave puts out kilowatts of power. The microwaves being studied by the military studies the pseudo-science crowd is fond of referencing are in the megawatt range.
Your home remains your private property. However, you have no authority to design for yourself the fashion in which the utility-provider (in this case, the water department) will deliver their service. You can, in fact, “say no”, at which point the water department can, in fact, say “OK, no problem, we’ll just go ahead and turn this shut-off valve over here, and you can get your water wherever else you like.”
Society needs to stop being held back by folks who don’t understand basic scientific principles.
I am amazed the Saugerties Times printed this. What an inaccurate nasty ranting letter!
Greco is actively campaigning for Ciarlante — I guess their “civility pledge” was very short lived!
Henry, I made no “pledge” to anyone. But more importantly, who are YOU protecting and why dont you want the people to know the truth about these dangerous devices? OR are you spouting off because you have a private well on your property that the rest of us cannot tap? OR perhaps, like Kelly Myers, you will not be getting any smart meter installed because you do not live in the Glasco district, AND, like Kelly, you dont give a rats behind about the rest of us. You, Like Kelly Myers, will therefore not be subjected to the adverse health effects of smart meters. If Kelly Myers continues to make BAD choices that cost the people of Saugerties their health, in addition to hundreds of thousands of tax dollars, we all deserve to know the truth about her intentions and her abuse of this once trusted decision-making leadership position. Seems her decisions dont affect you, so, (just like Myers) you don’t really seem to care about the rest of us. The exhorbiant cost and danger of the smart meters has nothing to do with any “civility pledge”, so it is suggested that you stop bashing and blabbing about things you dont know about nor are involved in. I think the “pledge” you are referring to was between the Conservatives and the Democrats. Republican party chair Joe Roberti REFUSED to take part in this pledge, leaving Kelly vulnerable to criticism from the other candidates about the way she ran the office of Supervisor. Kelly is fair game to any citizen who recognizes her mistakes. And, since as a citizen, and NOT a candidate RUNNING for election, I have taken no “pledge” to protect her or anyone else from her own blunders, I can divulge the truth. I do believe we still have freedom of speech in this country and if Kelly Myers has voted to harm my health and that of my neighbors I have the RIGHT to let people know about it. Maybe she oughta clean up her act if she wants to represent the people. Given her past record, Kelly is hanging on by a thread. But she oughta be bowing while thanking you for your unwavering support through all her goof-ups over the past 2 years. Many of them costing us an awful lot of tax money. And now, our health is at stake due to her dumb decisions.
Why doesn’t anyone want to take the time to do the research? It’s so easy to pass judgement without knowing the truth. http://oneradionetwork.com/newsflash/smart-meters-correcting-the-gross-misinformation-article/
That article is referring to *electric* smart meters, not *water* smart meters, whose behavior is completely different.
Electric smart meters do, in fact, pulse out data thousands of times per day. Water smart meters pulse out data once per month when polled.
There is obviously a world of difference between 30,000ish emissions per month and 1 emission per month.
REALLY Derek? And how have you become the expert on how many pulses per minute a smart meter emits? Maybe you oughta put a couple smart meters in YOUR house and see how it makes you feel. Then you can start counting the “pulses” so you can give us all an accrate measure, that is if you can take all that radiation between your counts….. AND you can be the guinea pig we need to see how long you stay healthy, so we have a good comparison. Please update us all on the results of your testing.
Sound like a number of people are setting up for some easy money. Usually when people complain about things as much as these folks are they are hoping to be able to sue either the water company, the town or the company that makes the meters for their various real or imagined ailments- frivilous law suits. they get paid by insurance companies just to make them go away.
I wish these meters were as innocuous as utilities and their hired shills want us to believe. I live in California and have met too many people whose lives have been restricted because of the health effects they experience in smart metered neighborhoods. Class action law suits are being filed and the smart meter will eventually be recognized as a bona fide “green con.” (as in con artist).
If people don’t want the meters for whatever personal reasons why not respect their wishes. What’s wrong with a precautionary approach? Most new technology is piloted before it is foisted on large populations. They meters are pulsing 24/7 all throughout the country.
I suggest all you experts out there give this clip a viewing.

If you don’t like the equipment your utility is using to deliver the service to you, feel free to disconnect from the utility and provide the service for oneself (dig a well, run a generator, etc.)
Thanks, Inside, finally a voice of reason!! Where are the rest?
Derek and the rest, you all need to do some serious research. Your are out of touch with reality.
Derek does not know what he is talking about. I would guess he would be willing to support choice in other instances, if he were to benefit, but certainly not to anyone else. Just an example of complete hypocrisy. You must comply with what DEREK wants but lets see if DEREK would comply if the shoe were on the other foot. Some people are only out for themselves and only support issues that benefit themselves….
