Ciarlante addresses Conservatives
I am reaching out to you in the hope of earning your support in the race for Saugerties town supervisor at the Conservative Party Caucus on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
I would like to share with you the following information:
About me:
I am a lifelong resident of Saugerties. My family history includes Ciarlante Ice, Coal and Oil Companies as well as the Pesce Bakery. My son was class valedictorian of SHS and graduated Harvard with honors. He and his wife have blessed our family with two grandchildren. I have a master’s degree from SUNY Albany and subsequently studied management, real estate and foreign language. I have 30 years of public service with Ulster County where I supervised the Forensic Program, the Chemical Dependency Day Treatment Program and the Ellenville and Highland clinics and served as consultant to courts in Ulster County. I am director of operation SOS. I attend all Town Board meetings and fight against increased taxes and government intrusion.
My immediate plans for Saugerties:
I will work to end skyrocketing property taxes on homeowners by:
1. End reckless spending and end committing our town to programs we know little about. To that end I will seek to withdraw Saugerties membership in ICLEI (International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives) which the 2009 Town Board joined and from which the current supervisor has failed to remove us.
2. I will carefully scrutinize all grant proposals for the actual cost to the town residents and future generations. I will examine the cost vs. benefits and make the details known to the public.
3. I will not seek or accept a raise in salary.
4. I will work to attract business to Saugerties and access to natural gas for the east and west side of the industrial corridor.
5. I will review the Saugerties budget using zero-based budgeting.
6.. I will work to implement mandatory bonding and hookup fees for large scale publicly subsidized housing projects applying a “Pay Your Way” principle.
7. I will plan and publicly post agendas to provide three days notice and (except in emergencies) avoid additions to the agenda without a three-day notice.
For the future of Saugerties:
I will address health care costs of future retirees which will fall on the shoulders of our children.
I will not commit the town residents to future debt without the direct voice of the people through the referendum process.
I will discourage the proliferation of government regulations without adequate cause.
After reading this I hope you will agree that my past actions, beliefs and promises are consistent with conservative values. I hope that you will find me worthy of your support at the Conservative Caucus on Aug. 28 and again on Nov. 5.

Saugerties needs Schirmer
What is the biggest problem facing Saugerties? Money! Money in the form of good jobs with good pay. Money in the form of taxes so our town can provide the services we all need.
Believe me, you need to talk to Billy Schirmer about what he would do to improve the biggest problem facing Saugerties. Bill is well aware the best way to fix our money problem is with economic growth. Bill knows that small business is the backbone of America’s economy. Bill knows what it takes to operate a successful, small, local company. How does he know all this? Because he is doing it. America’s economy is on the rebound, it slowly improves every day. Bill wants Saugerties to reap the benefits of this rebound by attracting quality small business. To successfully do this Saugerties must become small business friendly. Help put Bill Schirmer on our Town Board. Conservatives and Independents vote and vote often for Bill Schirmer. Vote at your caucuses, primaries and in November.
