A cultural forecast of hot times on the horizon

Saturday night brings in Snap, Cackle, Pop: An Evening of Comedy courtesy of the Woodstock Writers’ Festival; Longing for Grace, Grace Kiley’s one-woman show about Grace Kelly; and a second performance of the Rocky Horror program. On Sunday, Martha Frankel of the Woodstock Writers’ Festival leads a class in memoir-writing; Cleek Schrey and Gelsey Bell will duet on fiddle and vocals; Lucas Handwerker plays mind games with hypnosis, Neurolinguistic Programming and psychological suggestion; there’s a second performance 8: The Play; and blues guitarist Happy Traum is joined onstage by son Adam and daughter April.

Kaatsbaan International Dance Center

Dance events go on through the summer at the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli. On June 8, Jennifer Muller and the Works will be applying a multidisciplinary technique that weaves dance, theater and visual arts to create dances that celebrate and illuminate the human spirit. On June 9, the Upstream Residency Series of Sunday Upstream Showcases presents Project 44. On June 15 and 15, Dances Patrelle will bring dramatic ballet to the stage.

Tickets for most Kaatsbaan performances cost $30 for adults and $10 for children. For the Upstream Series, the suggested donation is $10, and Open Rehearsals are free and open to the public. Arm-of-the-Sea Theater

The mid-Hudson’s favorite giant puppetry troupe takes its two current traveling shows, The Rejuvenary River Circus and City that Drinks the Mountain Sky, around to festivals and outdoor public spaces throughout our region and beyond. Arm-of-the-Sea Theater will perform at the Clearwater Festival at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson on June 15 and 16; find ticket info at www.clearwaterfestival.org.
