What is your favorite hangout?
I don’t really have a favorite hangout. Well, maybe the library.
Tell us something we never would have guessed about you.
Wow… My current favorite music groups are the Killers and My Chemical Romance. My guilty pleasure is NBC’s The Voice.
What keeps you here?
I really enjoy my job and working with the people of Highland — especially the staff at the Library.
What would you change?
I would love to change the library building. It would be wonderful to have more space.
Where would we find you on Sunday mornings?
Sunday mornings I am either on the deck, if it’s nice out, or on the couch with coffee and my tablet.
What is your favorite virtue?
I guess honesty, being straightforward.
What profession, other than your own, would you like to attempt?
Why? At this point I don’t think I would try any other profession. I did consider being a public defender or civil rights attorney when I was younger.
Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here?
There are a couple of women patrons of the library that I find very interesting. They have had so many fascinating experiences in their lives. I thoroughly enjoy talking with them and listening to their reminiscences.
What qualities do you admire most in others?
I admire people who are intelligent and well-spoken; those who can put others at ease. I tend to be a bit shy, so I really admire people who are outgoing.
What is your idea of happiness?
Spending time with my family on the beach with a good book.
What is your idea of misery?
Having no place to go to relax and unwind.
What talent do you wish you had been given?
We have some very crafty employees at the library. I look at the things they make and wish I had the talent to create the way they can.
What is your main fault?
I think sometimes I can be a little impulsive. I have to remind myself to look at all the ramifications when adding a new service.
For which fault do you have the most tolerance?
Procrastination. Some people just do better under pressure.
What is your favorite motto?
“Step outside your comfort zone,” and “It takes a library!”
If you could create your own superhero, what would his or her name be, and why?
To me all librarians are superheroes: Guardians of Insight and Information and/or Vanquisher of Bewilderment, Confusion. “We don’t keep the knowledge; we discover and disclose it!”
