A variety of cooking demos and workshops will include such subjects as the healthy lunchbox, heart healthy salads, healthy Mexican and shakes and smoothies. Diane Henderiks of Dish with Diane will offer “Culinary Concoctions,” and Roufia Payman, supervisor of nutrition education at Northern Dutchess Hospital, will speak.

Fitness workshops and demos include yoga, Pilates mat, fitness habits, Beyond Barre, Dance With Me, SmartBells, BodyHoops, Boot Camp, P90X, Body Combat, CX WORX and Dance Xross Fitness. All-day dance, fitness and music performances will be shown on Drew Andrews’ “Let’s Move with Drew” stage.

The pampering part of women’s health won’t be neglected. A complimentary spa zone will offer massage therapy and spa services, acupuncture, reflexology, reiki and massage. Don’t miss “The Doctor is In” booth for a personal consultation with cardiologist Ali Hammoud or ob/gyn Meredith McDowell. A free 15-minute mini-portrait session will be available with Maximilian B. Nucci Photography. The expo will also present a scholarship of $500 towards training at Excel Gymnastics in Saugerties to an Ulster County female athlete.

“Most of us tend to fragment our health into little compartments — what we eat, how or if we exercise, medical check-ups, meditation, taking vitamins or supplements or medications,” says expo founder and director Dr. Debra Karnasiewicz. “But the various disciplines are not at odds with each other. Everything our main stage speakers have to share will support and complement the needs of mind, body and spirit.”

The American Psychological Association recently released a survey called Stress in America that showed that only 17 percent of people say they discuss with their healthcare providers how to manage stress. Find it on Saturday, May 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Miller Middle School, 65 Fording Place Road in Lake Katrine. See www.womenshealthexpo.com for a detailed schedule of events.
