Yoga for mind and body

Hatha yoga

At Woodstock Body Holistics and Ameriyoga, owner Patricia Bolin says, “I have a unique style that caters to all ages, especially the baby boomers. I have a following who has transformed their bodies as well as their lives, and my way of teaching hatha yoga hasn’t caused any of my students injuries since I opened it in 2007.”

Bolin says that Ameriyoga is for the serious student who is disciplined and willing to work hard. Classes are small, with a maximum of ten students, emphasizing individual attention to breath and alignment. Classes begin with pranayama (deep breathing) and move through sun salutation, then standing, seated, abdominal and pelvic floor exercises, from simple to complex, and end with savasana, the art of toning and relaxation. Woodstock Body Holistics is at 4 Grog Kill in Willow, eight miles from the center of Woodstock. Classes are available at Levels 1 and 2, and Gentle Yoga. Vinyasa yoga

At the Gardiner Library there are three yoga classes every week. One is Wabi Sabi Yoga geared toward beginners, offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 am. There is a vinyasa-style class, a modern-day version of classical Indian yoga, open to all levels, with seated, standing and supine poses, along with some inversions, on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Classes are held in the library’s community room at 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner. The library can be reached at 255-1255 or www.gardinerlibrary.org.
