Local cops, schools self-evaluate after Sandy Hook shootings

“It’s something we take very seriously, something we prepare for,” said Cruise. “The key is to be pre-emptive. You can’t be at every school every moment, you can’t have somebody at the mall every moment.”

To that end, several police officials said that they had been monitoring social networks and checking up on a few individuals whose past behavior had put them on cops’ radar. In Kingston, Tinti said, detectives had paid a visit to one man after he posted on a social media site about the massacre “maybe it could have been done better.” While cops determined that the posting was merely tasteless and not threatening, Tinti said police would continue to respond quickly to similar incidents.

“It might just be stupid wording,” said Tinti. “But our officers are going to take those kinds of threats very seriously.”
