Lego Contest at Poughkeepsie Plaza

They say that there are three levels of pain: pain, excruciating pain and stepping on a Lego. If you can relate, you must have a brick-builder in your home. Head over to the Poughkeepsie Plaza on Sunday, September 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. for the 19th annual Lego Contest. Prizes will be awarded in four age categories (individual entries only, no teams): 4 through 6 years; 7 and 8 years; 9 through 11 years; and 12 through 15 years. This event is open to the public, and free tee-shirts will be given to the first 50 entrants.

Holistic healing workshop for pregnant women and mothers in Poughkeepsie

My friend and colleague Marnie McKnight-Favell of Dragonfly Holistic and I are offering a seasonal pregnancy and parenting workshop called “La Mère Illuminée: Reflecting and Illuminating the Motherhood Experience.” This session includes elements of our respective healing work, as well as practices that women can use to support insight and meditation, with a focus on the energies of autumn. La Mère Illuminée is open to parents of older children and first-time mothers-to-be, as well as mothers who are expecting or adopting again.

The session takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18 at Waddle n Swaddle, located at 32 Raymond Avenue in Poughkeepsie. The cost for the session is $20, and prepaid registration is required via PayPal ([email protected]). For more information, contact Marnie McKnight-Favell at (845) 242-2979 or [email protected]. New season of Continuing Ed classes at SUNY-Ulster begins

Maybe you have someone in your family who has SAT prep on her mind, like Laurel in the Young Adult novel The Beginning of After. Perhaps you have a child who is interested in learning piano or violin. Is your young adult curious about ham radio? Are you looking for some postnatal yoga?

Whatever your family’s interests or your children’s ages, SUNY-Ulster has got some terrific Continuing Education classes to consider. Check them out online or ask for a catalogue. Personally, I’m excited about my upcoming line-dancing course!

SUNY-Ulster is located in Stone Ridge, but many of its Continuing Education classes take place in Kingston. For more information, call (845) 339-2025 or visit www.sunyulster.edu/ce.
