What makes Saugerties unique?

It’s where I grew up, and I’ve lived here all my life. I love the area. I’m not crazy about the taxes. But it’s a beautiful place. You’ve got the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson River.

What is your favorite virtue?

Honesty.

What profession, other than your own, would you like to attempt?

None. After 34 years, I love my job. I work seven days a week year round. Other than trips to Africa, I’m working all the time.

What are your favorite color, flower and animal?

My favorite color is camouflage. Favorite flower, I guess roses. Favorite animal, man that’s a tough one. They’re all my favorites. They’re all special and beautiful.

What do you like about this community?

It’s got a hometown feel. I can walk in any store and I know their names and they know mine.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here?

Bill Robinson. He was my 7th grade teacher, and he had a lot of taxidermy on the walls. He does wildlife lectures. He’s known worldwide. You point to a star and he’ll tell you which one it is. You point to a plant, he’ll tell you which one it is. Point to an animal and he’ll tell you its scientific name.

What is your idea of a perfect Saturday?

The perfect Saturday is the same as every other day. I work.

What qualities do you admire most in others?

Honesty, integrity. Someone you can shake hands with and know their word is their word.

What is your idea of happiness?

I am happy. I’ve got a great marriage, I get to travel the world and I’ve got the job I love.

What is your idea of misery?

Someone you thought was a friend that’s not.

What talent do you wish you had been given?

Instead of learned art, I would like to have been given the natural gift of art.

What is your main fault?

Expecting too much from people.

For which fault do you have the most tolerance?

None. Hey, there’s an honest answer.

What is your favorite motto?

I don’t think I have one.

Do you have any heroes?

There’s many. They aren’t heroes, but people I respect tremendously.

What character in history do you most dislike?

Our president.

What is your present state of mind?

Happy, settled, content. All of the above.

If heaven exists, what would you like to hear Saint Peter say when he greets you?

Certainly not, “Get out of here.” Just that I’ll be with Ivone forever.
