New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site and Knox’s Headquarters Independence Day Celebration held July 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Celebrate at two sites hallowed by the soldiers who won our independence. See a military drill and cannon-firing at 2 p.m., as well as blacksmithing and children’s activities throughout the day. Town of Newburgh’s Independence and Community Day held Tuesday, July 3 starting at 6 p.m. Fireworks at dusk. Cronomer Park on 214 Gardnertown Road in Newburgh and Algonquin Park on Powder Mill Road and Route 52 in Newburgh. (845) 564-4552. Admission is free.

West Point Band’s Independence Day Concert and Fireworks held July 7 at 8 p.m. Concert will feature the West Point Band, the Hellcats, the Concert Band and the Benny Havens Band. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display set to the music of the West Point Band. This concert is free and open to the public. Trophy Point Amphitheatre in West Point. Newburgh’s Washington’s Headquarters State Historic presents a Grand Birthday Celebration and Parade held on July 4 at 12 noon. Celebrating our country’s 236th birthday as well as Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site’s 162nd birthday, the first publicly owned historic site in the nation. Lineup: 12 noon magic show by Melody “the Amazing Meldini” Newcombe, followed by a performance at 1:15 p.m., Grand Birthday Parade at 1 p.m. If you would like to join the parade, dress up in red, white and blue and strut your patriotic stuff. Free tours of the Hasbrouck House. Tours are given every half-hour from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission is free on July 4, sponsored by deputy mayor Regina Angelo. West Point Fireworks Display Cruise held July 7 at 8p.m. Cruise aboard the Pride of the Hudson and view the City of Newburgh’s fireworks. Meet at the Newburgh Landing on Front Street in Newburgh. (800) 979-3370. Admission is $30.

Walkway over the Hudson Fireworks Spectacular held on July 4 at 6:30 p.m. Hosted by the Walkway over the Hudson, City of Poughkeepsie, Town of Lloyd and local businesses. The Walkway will close to the public at 5 p.m. and then reopen at 6:30 p.m. for those possessing valid wristbands. Bring chairs, flashlights and snacks. Fireworks will start at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wristbands must be purchased in advance to enter the Walkway. Tickets cost $10 each; kids age 5 and under get in free and do not require a wristband. Kingston’s Senate House Independence Day Celebration held June 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day begins with a patriotic service at 11 a.m. followed by an afternoon of music provided by the Headless Horsemen Fife and Drum Corps, 18th-century magic performed by “Mr. Bayly” and 18th-century games for kids to play. The Third Ulster Militia will be encamped on the grounds demonstrating 18th-century camp life, including hearthside cooking, washing laundry and demonstrating the practice of medicine in the Colonial era. Guided tours of the Senate House will be provided by costumed interpreters.
