“I told him, ‘Don’t curse me,’” said McComb. “To me, when you curse me, you’re putting a curse on me, you’re saying something bad should happen to me.”
The altercation ended with McComb in handcuffs, arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct. McComb’s sister, 14-year-old Grace McComb, was in the crowd outside the church. She said the young parishioners were shocked and outraged after McComb was handcuffed.
“All the little kids were crying, I was crying,” said Grace McComb. “People were really upset and talking about retaliating because everybody witnessed it and [Dhasan McComb] was just trying to help people.”
Good arrest, says Sgt. Rell
But Kingston police tell a different story.
KPD Sgt. Barry Rell said that he was not on duty the day of the arrest, but based on reports from officers at the scene, the charge was warranted.
“He ripped his shirt off, he was yelling and screaming and causing a disturbance,” said Rell. “When officers approached him he continued in the same manner and he was arrested for disorderly conduct.”
According to Rell, McComb was held at Kingston police headquarters for about half an hour for processing, and then released with a ticket returnable to city court ata later date. McComb, meanwhile, insists that he was not upset about the bust, which he attributed to one “zealous young cop.” But, he added, he has no intention of scaling back on the passionate preaching.
“I’d do it again if the Holy Ghost prompts me,” said McComb. “I’m not ashamed and you can tell it had an impact.”
