Commentary: Don’t take right to vote for granted

I am proud of the 2012-2013 proposed budget, which has been unanimously endorsed and approved by the Kingston City School District Board of Education. It represents hundreds of hours of thoughtful research and many hard decisions. It is now time for the community to weigh in on the plan.

The right to vote is one not to be taken for granted. Please exercise this right on May 15, 2012 by participating in the school district budget and board of education elections.

Paul Padalino is superintendent of the Kingston City School District.

When elections are taken for a mandate, regardless of the vote it does NOT show that every vote counts… it pretty much shows that none of the votes count… all the votes on the loosing side are ignored, completely. And if your side “wins” and you take that as a mandate: that’s hardly a demonstration of democracy, it’s just tyranny by another process.
As to voting: I plan to take part. I plan to vote “no”. That’s participating too. You’re job is to get it right. My job is to approve it when you do.
I think the whole district needs a solid “no”. And I think the City ought to take a very very active role in the schools: property values, quality of life, and taxes: you’re talking quality of schools.

And I do completely celebrate our new superintendents outreach, communication, the upgraded website… he is indeed pushing communication very hard. He is working to inform and solicit participation. I hope he will be effective and will continue to push that agenda until he has gotten the whole community involved.

Thank you Kingston Times and Thank You Dr. Padalino for supporting Education by informing people of their opportunity to vote on the school budget, four propositions and three school board members. There are almost 7,000 students in our district….We need the community to vote. The District Wide Parent’s Council is asking our community to join us in ONE VOTE FOR EVERY CHILD IN OUR DISTRICT…..BUDDY VOTE……Bring a friend to VOTE. I plan to VOTE “YES” One elementary school is closing, 92 people are losing their jobs. 7,000 children need high quality education. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CHILDREN…..VOTE “YES” 2012. Great Schools stimulate our economy! Thank you for supporting education. Kingston Votes…..We Care about our Communities……We Care about our Schools……We Care to VOTE.
