Council working to restore cleanup crews

Mayor Shayne Gallo, who ran on a pledge to focus on quality-of-life issues, has proposed taking $18,000 from the city’s contingency fund to renew the contract for the remainder of the year. The reserve fund, Gallo said could be replenished later this year using anticipated savings from the city’s snow removal budget. The Finance Committee approved the funding earlier this month and the full council is expected to approve it at its March meeting.

“It doesn’t send a positive message about Kingston when you have trash and garbage strewn all over the streets,” said Gallo. “We need to supplement our city workforce and this is the most economical way to do it.”
