“Having this event as the venue I think people will become good stewards of the parks. People will be more invested in their parks,” said Fuentes. “When people see the recycling cans or garbage cans they will want to use them instead of leaving garbage on the ground.”
Concert next month
Former mayoral hopeful Andi Turco-Levin has organized a benefit concert at Old Dutch Church for Saturday, March 24, and among the local talent will be her husband, universe-class bassist Tony Levin. “When I lived on the Upper West Side, Riverside Park had movies in the park in the meadow in the summer,” said Turco-Levin. “It builds a strong sense of community people get to know each other and spend time with each other. You’re there with your kids cleaning and spending time and you become more invested in the community and that’s why projects like this are so important to have in the community.”
Other participating musicians will include Dave Daw, singer and community activist Rebecca Martin, hip-hop artist Julio Jackson and percussionist Juma Sultan.
Resident Brenda Waldemar has some suggestions. “Unstoppable; Inside Job; No End in Sight; Sicko; The Wrong Man. … I personally like movies that actually are life-changers … just like good books.”
“For Movies Under the Stars in Kingston, I’d love to have a choice of a great date movie for a rare night out with my husband thinking something along the lines of Midnight in Paris or something similar and/or something fun to take the whole family to,” said resident and mom Annie Dwyer Internicola.
Kingston-area graphic artist and independent filmmaker Stephen Blauweiss will be working with Miller Middle School student Karina Pecheco on refining her winning Movies Under the Stars logo.
