Hugh Reynolds: Four on the floor

Case in point. The local Liberty Coalition was formed last year by former GOP chair Robin Yess and a handful of Republican dissidents with web/media access for the apparent purpose of boinking Republican candidates who supported county retention of the nursing home. Last year’s legislative elections suggest the coalition had minimal influence. In fact, two of its candidates, Walter Frey of Saugerties and Manuela Michailescu of Rochester, were buried.

Moving on, the coalition in December opposed the election of Terry Bernardo of Rochester as legislative chair and her appointment of Langdon Chapman of Orange County as legislative attorney. Strike two.

In a perhaps too clever a ploy, Yess, a spokeswoman for the coalition, sent an open letter to Orange County Legislature Chairman Mike Pillmeir on Jan. 5 suggesting that since Ulster County had hired an Orangeman as legislative attorney two days previous Orange legislators might reciprocate by hiring an Ulsterperson for their attorney.

Cute. Problem was, Orange already had an Ulster County attorney as legislative counsel, one Antoinette Reed, 53, of Rutsonville Road in Wallkill.

Oops.

And finally, my apologies to Mayor Shayne Gallo’s mother Nancy for listing her age at 78 in a recent column. In fact, the mayor’s very active mom recently turned 77. What I meant to write was she was in her 78th year. Dumbassity is not solely limited to the Liberty Coalition.
