Until then, a few things are going on in the upcoming weekend worth mentioning. Next weekend, Kingston’s Maennerchor and Damenchor — German singing society — will host its annual Christkindlmarkt at its headquarters on 37 Greenkill Ave. (near Iwo Jima Lane) on Friday, Dec. 2 from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Christkindlmarkt (Christ Child Market) traces its history to the 14th century, where German-speaking parts of Europe held holiday open market festivals.
Maennerchor and Damenchor vendors will offer giftware, homemade crafts, hand-painted ornaments, toys, beer-related memorabilia, hand-sewn and knitted garments and accessories, an elves’ table, home baked goods and a “stube” — café — for casual dining on German and American favorites.
There is no charge for admission. Further information is available at the club at (845) 338-3762.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, the Friends of Historic Kingston will be hosting a Museum Shop holiday sale with books and items of regional interest between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Main Street and Wall Street. Call (845) 339-0720.
Also on Dec. 3, the Junior League is hosting its Holly Berry Trail — a tour of private, Kingston-area homes decorated in holiday splendor inside and out, with refreshments provided. Tours run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. or 1 p.m.-4 p.m.; tickets are $30. Call (845) 706-3473 or visit juniorleaguekingston.org.
Furthermore on Dec. 3, the Reformed Church of Port Ewen will be hosting the Hudson Valley English Dance between 7:30-10:30 p.m. Paul Ross and Tiddely Pom will be callers, and lessons are required for new dancers at 7 p.m. Visit hudsonvalleydance.org for more.
The lofty space of the Old Dutch Church on Wall and Main streets in Uptown will reverberate next weekend to the sounds of a well-rehearsed all-male choir singing seasonal sacred music and holiday favorites. The performances this year will be at 8 p.m. next Friday, Dec. 9 and next Saturday, Dec. 10.
This year the club’s 40 to 45 members will perform such favorites as “Mary, Did You Know?” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “I’ll be Home for Christmas.” The Kingston High School choir and ensembles will play a set. Then, in the traditional finale, the combined forces and the audience will join in on “Glory of the Lord” and the rousing Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s “Messiah.”
Admission is $8 for general audience, and $6 for children and seniors.
