As for Facebook, Dragon dissents from those who feel Facebook should exclusively be used for personal use. “Facebook is very good in that you have an entire page for your business, and you can build dialogues as well. The adoption rate of Facebook is much higher than Twitter, however the smaller groups of people on Twitter are more vocal and into technology, edgy; they tend to be people who are early adopters of a lot of new ideas and concepts.”
Cheryl Schneider, owner of The Mac Works, admitted that she came to the convention to learn. She said the first thing she learned was to get rid of her logo in her profile picture, and rather use her own face. “It’s a lot of fun,” she said on using social media. “I want to follow more people and engage more with the local community and beyond to make personal connections, which will also promote my business.”
DragonSearch picked up Jillian Jackson from Frankfort, Ky. to do social media networking for them thanks to her blog posts in which she typically quipped clever commentary on the industry of marketing, current events and human resource industry. She had a blast on every site that she was “For hire,” accompanied with, “I want to (a blank to be filled in)”.
After the convention, Ric Dragon invited all to join him at the DragonSearch afterparty, where people put down the phones to interface with real eye contact over Keegan Ales beer.

Thanks for the mention Carrie and huge thanks to DragonSearch and the Seven21Media Center for hosting such a great event! You really helped me get the word out about what I’ve been up to at Sugartown Vintage Boutique in Saugerties, as well as the other ways other folks are building community online!
