“While the vast majority of remaining customers will have electricity by Sunday evening, there are some customers who may be weeks away from full recovery in hard-hit areas,” Laurito said. “Some areas where roads and poles have been completely washed away by severe flooding will require us to reconstruct the electric distribution system, and that will take a prolonged amount of time.”
Central Hudson continues to solicit for additional mutual aid response. Contract line, line clearance and construction crews from Kansas, Oklahoma, Florida and Washington, D.C., are joining Central Hudson to assist in the massive effort. Crews are also arriving from other areas as they become available.
Dry ice and bottled water continue to be handed out at numerous locations in Ulster:
- Cantine Sports Complex, 10 Pavilion St. (off Washington Avenue), Saugerties
- Town of Rochester Community Center, Tobacco Road, Accord
- Marbletown Elementary School, 12 Pine Bush Road, Stone Ridge
- Town of Woodstock Community Center, Rock City Rd., Woodstock
Central Hudson officials continue to warn local residents that serious flooding conditions also have the potential to undermine the stability of underground pipelines; they remind customers who may see damage in the vicinity of pipelines and/or who may smell the odor of natural gas to report the condition via the utility’s Gas Odor Hotline: 1-800-942-8274. Laurito also stressed the importance of staying away from downed lines and being alert to the possibility that fallen trees or structures may hide energized electric lines.
