Bios for Library Board candidates

Rebecca Mignano-Campbell

Hi.  My name is Rebecca Mignano-Campbell, Becky to those who know me.  I am a full time Mother of 2 beautiful children and a part time Manager at the Town of Saugerties Kiwanis Ice Arena.  I grew up in Saugerties, live and work in Saugerties.  My Mother took me to the Saugerties Library as a child and for the last 8 years, I have taken my children, Amber, 9 and Blake, almost 4, on and off to one of the 3 available story times with Miss Stephanie and her, always helpful, staff.  My family attends the events whenever possible, the last one being the Summer Reading Program’s kickoff event, Bubble Trouble.  These events not only encourage one of the most important things a child can learn, READING, it also encourages community and and a sense of belonging to a community.

I have always enjoyed reading and did a great amount of it when I was pregnant with my first child.  I did not have my mother any longer to ask the many questions that I had.  I discovered many things about raising a child and one of the most important things that you can do for any child is read to them.  So, began our trips to the Library.

When my husband told me about the openings on the Board which he had seen in the newspaper, I thought how that would be a great place for me to get involved with my community and be part of a good thing, something I was familiar with.  I would love to help open they eyes of people, especially children, on what the Library has to offer.  In these difficult economic times, families need inexpensive ways to have family time and fun.  A Library card is FREE,  borrowing books, videos, CDs and etc., FREE, using computers, saving a bundle on magazine subscriptions, FREE.

I am not a political person.  This is an exciting new adventure for me and a learning experience that I am looking forward to.  I want to be a part of a great new library and hope to encourage others along the way,  to take advantage of what it offers, both adults, but especially the children of Saugerties.  Thanks for your support.

I received a Master’s Degree in Public History from the University at Albany in 2009. My Bachelor’s is also from the University at Albany. I currently work as a museum educator at the Senate House State Historic Site in Kingston. As for my plans if elected to the board, I would work to help the library continue to move forward and serve the community. I also think it is important to promote all that the library has to offer to residents and to get everyone to realize what a great resource the library is. With the new addition to the library and the current economy, the library is in a great position to serve as a focal point and central part of the community.
